General Notes
Thank you to all those members who have paid their Club subscriptions for the coming year. The closing date for payment was Monday February 28th.
The Committee will be meeting later this week with a view to agreeing a list of new members to be invited to join the Club.
If, for one reason or another, you were not able to contact the club, to renew your membership, you are advised to do so this week before any offers are made to those on the waiting list. The option to pay by Premium Credit is closed as all applications had to be submitted before the 28th of February.
Golfer of the Year.
After the enforced absence of the Golfer of the Year competition, we are delighted to announce the re-launch of this exciting event.
Thanks, once again, to our sponsors, Cathal O’Neill of the Kilkenny Vehicle Center (main Honda & Citroen dealer), this years event will commence with the Spring Singles which will take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20, March, and finish in October.
The GOTY will be run over 16 events and will also include, all eight Monthly Medals, Captains Prize (final day), Presidents prize, Richard Duggan Memorial, PGA Tankard, Captains prize to opposite Club, Smithwick Cup and the Club Singles matchplay, with quarter finalists, semi-finalists & finalists earning points.
The scoring will award 15 points to the winner of each competition, with second place receiving 12. All subsequent placings will earn points, based on their proximity to the second placed score.
There will be four bonus competitions with the winner receiving 20 points.
All golfer of the year competitions will be identified, in the diary, with GOTY beside them.
HolmPatrick Fourball
The first of the 18 hole competitions will take place this coming week-end with the National Council for the Blind sponsored HolmPatrick Fourball taking place. The winner of the event will qualify for an area final with a chance to go forward to the Provincial finals.
Bob Murphy Shield.
A club member has come into possession of a plastic bag containing a number of ‘replica cups’.
The cups have the inscription “Bob Murphy Shield” and all of the trophies have dates pertaining to the 1950’s.
It looks like they were awarded for a possible fourball competition as two of the cups are dated for the same year.
Do you have any knowledge or information about the Bob Murphy Shield? Do you remember a Bob Murphy? Is there a shield in your possession?
We would love to find out any information relating to the Bob Murphy Shield.
If you have any knowledge relating to the above, please contact me via e-mail on richardgolf@outlook.com or leave your name and number and any details you may have in to the office.
Casual Golf
It has been agreed that on the resumption of 18 hole golf and until further notice, all casual golf up to 18.00hrs. will have to be pre-booked on the BRS.
After six o’clock members can arrive and play casual golf.
