Outside Catering Recommences Monday June 7th
The premises will reopen for outside serving of Tea/Coffee and drinks on Monday June 7th.
Five tables with chairs will be in place in the front car park where the Club Officers cars are parked at present. The opening hours initially will be 10.30am to 6pm daily. Only beverages will be served at the moment and Barry Joyce will not be recommencing his food service yet.
Club Fourball Qualifiers.
In some excellent weather, 137 pairs took to the fairways with a view to securing one of the 31 places in the matchplay stages.
With four pairs returning 9 up, the winners, on the countback and by virtue of their birdie on 17, were Bernard McDonald & Sean Tyrell. The reward for their efforts is a tough draw against Tom Sloyan & Richard Duggan. Defending champions, Benny & Derek Cleere will face off against Brian Dargan & Jack Poyntz.
If you returned a 4 up there is joy and despair. Four pairings on 4 up failed to make the cut on the countback.
Full details of the Qualifiers and the draw are posted on the notice board.
Qualifiers should note that the Competitions Committee have set strict guidelines for completion of each round, with the first round to be completed by 27 June and round 2 scheduled for completion by the 18 July.
The pairing on top of the draw should take responsibility for arranging their match.
Handicaps, for the matchplay, will be as follows – the lowest person goes to scratch and the other three players will play off 9/10 of the difference.
In the event of a match not being completed by the due date the Committee reserve the right to declare a result.
This coming week-end, the June Bank Holiday, the May Monthly Medal and the qualifying round for the Club Singles take place on Friday 04, (two hours), Saturday 05 and Sunday 06,
Due to the curtailed golfing year, only 31 players, along with last year’s winner, Richard Guilfoyle, will go through to the matchplay stages.
On the Bank Holiday Monday, there will be a semi-open four-person Team event.
Despite the sunshine at the week-end there were a few soft spots on the course, resulting in plugged balls.
The ruling pertaining to such a case and providing your ball comes to rest in its own indent, a player may lift, clean and drop as near as possible to the spot and not nearer the hole.
AIG Junior Cup Leinster Final
Despite the Government easing the restriction on numbers that can attend sport events, Golf Ireland have not been able to increase the number of attendees at the Finals. Only the panel of 7 players, the two team managers , one club officer and a covid officer can attend on the day. If there is any easing of this before the weekend we will circulate.
Kilkenny travel to Millicent GC in Clane Co. Kildare to take on Coorstown, Kilsallaghan Co. Dublin, in the Leinster Final.
The Club are creating a What’s App group for members who wish to kept up to date on proceedings in Clane.
If you are interested, you can join the group by submitting your name and mobile number to Sean in the office.
We wish the team members and the Managers every success in their efforts to bring further glory to Kilkenny Golf Club.
The winners of Kilkenny & Corrstown will head to the All-Ireland Finals which will take place in Donegal with the practice round scheduled for next Wednesday and All Ireland Semi final on Thursday. The winning team will have a busy week ahead of them.
The introduction of the Purse system has been deferred for one week and will now be launched for competitions to be held on the week-end of 19,20 & 21 June.
Members will be required to have their purse topped up with sufficient funds before they can make a reservation on Friday, 11 June.
Comprehensive guidelines are listed below.
Communication to members re the introduction of the Purse system.
The Purse system which was recently introduced in the club comprises 3 individual purses linked to your Golf Ireland card and membership number namely:
1. Bar Purse which has been operational for some years.
2. Competition Purse through which all entry to competitions will be facilitated.
3. Subscription Purse which allows a member to save for next years annual subscription.
The competition Purse will become operational for competitions from the weekend of 19/20th June (booking on Friday 11th June) for the Mens Bar Cup Qualifier and the Ladies 18 Hole Singles.
From 19TH June the only way to enter a competition is through the Competition Purse. It will not be possible to pay the entry fee in cash after June 19th.
The implication of this for members is as follows:
• A member should have sufficient money in the purse either to book a time in a competition via BRS or for another member to book them in as a playing partner.
• The entrance fee for the competition is taken from the purse of the member entered on BRS regardless of who actually makes the booking.
• The Competition Purse will allow a player to overdraw it to the extent of 1 competition entrance fee i.e. €6. Players are requested to have the purse pre-funded. The €6 overdrawn limit will cover an emergency situation, allowing a player to book a time in a competition, where a player may have forgotten to top up the purse. It will not be possible to book a time on a timesheet if the card is already overdrawn.
• If a player cancels their booking before 6.00 p.m. on the evening preceding the day of competition the entrance fee will be automatically credited back to their purse.
There will be no refund for a player cancelling a time after 6.00 p.m. of the preceding day. A player who has to cancel after 6.00 p.m. due to an emergency may seek a refund and a decision on same will be made by the Competitions committee.
There are 2 ways to put money into your Competition purse or indeed any of the 3 Purses.
1. Present your Golf card at the bar counter and request the Bar person to credit one of the Purse’s. It is important to specify which purse and to check the receipt to ensure it has been credited to the correct purse.
2. Through the Members Hub on Club V1 from your Debit card (Bank card) or Credit card.
In order to get set up on the Members Hub you need the following:
• an e-mail address (not shared if your partner is also a golfer)
• either an iPad, iPhone, laptop, computer or an Android phone.
• a Debit Card (Bank card) or Credit card.
A step-by-step guide on how to install the Club V1 Members Hub and register is contained in the following website.
If members need assistance in getting set up, please ring the office at 056 7765400 and make an appointment with Aoife / Sean who will guide you through the process.
The Divot repair repair session, organised for this evening, has had to be postponed due to essential maintenance work on the buggies and will now take place on Thursday evening at 7pm.
A warm welcome to Aoife Crowdle, who will be assisting Sean in manning the office for the Summer months until her return to college.

Prizes will be available next Thursday along with any outstanding prizes from last year.
The timesheet for the first away outing of the year to Faithlegg on Monday, 14 June, will be available from this Thursday, 03 June.
This will be golf only with maybe a cup of coffee/tea and scone as you arrive.
The timesheet for Thursday, 10 June, goes live on the BRS at 18.00hrs. on Friday, 04 June.
Please be careful and book on the men’s competition lines and not on the Ladies lines or member lines. There is an overlap at the beginning and end of our time slots.
Club Captain, Paul Colfer’s prize to the Senior Gent’s Society is on June 10th. This is also a golfer of the year event.
Just a reminder to the members to take a divot bag with you on your round.
You can get a bag from the office if you do not already have one.
Please remember to follow the Covid guidelines.
Arrive – Play – Depart.
Only one person is allowed in the starter’s office at a time.
The team captain will collect the entry fee and membership fee and hand it in to the starter’s office and then receive their playing card.
At the end of the round the marker should sign the card and write in the name of one other player on the team.
Put the card in the box at the front entrance.
Ladies Club Notes
Preparations are ongoing for the Get into Golf Programme 2021. The programme generated enormous interest, with nearly 50 Ladies submitting their names hoping to participate.
To ensure that the programme is run to the highest standards and that the Club can fully support the participants, it was necessary to shortlist the numbers to 30 Ladies.
The Covid restrictions also had to considered, taking the advice from Golf Ireland to limit the number of participants.
The successful applicants have now received their offer of a place on the programme which is scheduled to commence week of Monday, 14 June. We are actively seeking members to act as volunteers on the programme and anyone who is interested in helping out, in any way, can contact Martina Naughton, Programme Co-Ordinator.
In running this event, Kilkenny Golf club is fulfilling one of it’s commitments under the Women in Golf Charter, to recruit more women and young girls into the club.
Please note the upcoming Ladies competition on Saturday/Sunday 05/06 June and Tuesday, 08 June is the Valerie Doyle Qualifier, 18 hole Stableford.
