Flagsticks & Rakes

Starting from this Saturday, 07 August, flagsticks can be removed from the cup when putting.

Rakes will also be back in use in the bunkers.

This means that you no longer have relief in the bunkers and players must play their ball as it lies.

The following Protocols will be in place for the coming weeks.

Prior to commencing your game be sure to wash your hands.

Members are strongly advised to bring and use their own pocket sanitizer and use it after touching rakes or pins, this is important to protect ourself, your fellow members and the course staff employees.

If two or more players land in the same bunker only one person is allowed to handle

the rake.

Likewise, only one person in each group is allowed to handle the pin at each hole.

Well done Philip. Enjoy the rest of your year in office.

Team Results

Competition. Junior Foursomes

Kilkenny’s Ladies Junior Foursomes team played Castlecomer, who had home advantage, last week-end.

Playing away, Phyl Doyle & Evelyn Crotty secured a vital away point, winning on the 15th.

Ella Dunphy & Niamh Spratt fought very hard in their match but were beaten on the 16th.

At home, Margaret  McCreery and Mary Norton, having started very well and were two up only for the Castlecomer Ladies to reverse the situation and were two up through 15.

A superb putt on 16, by Kilkenny, brought the match back to one a hole deficit.

With the 17th halved, Kilkenny needed a positive result on 18.

It was as exciting as could possibly  be.

Castlecomer had a great drive on 18 but, their second shot found the front bunker. Kilkenny’s Margaret McCreery and Mary Norton, after two excellent shots, were looking in, and when Castlecomer went from bunker to bunker and then back again the match went down the 19th.

Playing to a red flag, the Kilkenny ladies made no mistake and closed out the match.

Kilkenny will have home advantage when they face Royal Curragh, in the next round. Details have yet to be finalised.

Managers:-  Paula Bradbury & Ann Greany

Competition. Senior Cup.

The Kilkenny Senior Cup ladies played the Leinster Area Final on Tuesday last and had a very impressive victory over Wexford.

They now qualify for the All Ireland Finals weekend which will be held in The Castle later this month.

Kilkenny had home advantage on this occasion and the match details are as follows –

At Home

Mary Dowling v Rachel O’Connor, won on the 11th

Orla Dunphy v Sheila Richardson, won on the16th

Mary Leahy-Brown v Margaret Atkinson, won on the 14th

Away

Jan Browne v Aisling O’Leary, and Eileen Rose Power v Ruth Kennedy, were both called in.

Team Managers:- Ella Dunphy & Eileen Rose Power

Ladies U19

The U19 Inter-club team traveled to Tulfarris, with the prospect of two matches last Saturday.

In the morning the team secured a win against Tulfarris.

In the afternoon they came up against Baltray, a very strong opponent.  Disappointingly they were on the wrong end of the result.

However, it should be noted that, the Kilkenny team played exceptionally well and displayed great promise for the years ahead.

Managed:- Sarah Molloy.
