General Notes
November Christmas Hamper Series.
In association with Caulfield’s SuperValu and O’Brien’s Butchers, Loughboy.
The Competitions Committee have agreed the running of a Christmas Hamper Series to be held during the month of November.
The series, kindly sponsored by Caulfield’s SuperValu and O’Brien’s Butchers, Loughboy, will be held on each week-end of November (Saturday, Sunday and Monday) as follows:-
Week-end:- 06 November – Singles
13 November – Fourball
20 November – Scotch Foursomes
27 November – Three Person Team Event
The Competitions Committee will apply handicap adjustments for the duration of the Christmas Hamper Series.
The week-end of 04 December can be used as a filler week-end should any of the above dates fall foul of the weather.
Presentation of Hampers will take place on the evening of the Christmas Mixed Foursomes, Sunday, 12 December.
Swing Studio
As you are aware we have now a fully operational Swing Studio built to the left of the ballroom. The purpose of the studio is that our professional Jimmy Bolger can carry out lessons and club fittings for members. We will also be making the studio available to individuals and groups who want to play a round of golf on the simulator. Our intention is to make the Swing studio available to members from the first week in November. In the meantime, we will be letting members know how to book, prices, courses available to play, opening times etc. Thank you for your patience on this but we need to examine the new Covid rules being announced by the government on 22nd October before we can set out the exact parameters of usage.
Pool Table
With the Club experiencing a shortage of storage space it has been agreed to dispense with the Pool table and convert the room into much needed storage space.
Any member who wishes to acquire the pool table should contact Sean in the office and arrange for the dismantling and removal of same.
Saturday Crosscard Fourball.
The Saturday Fourball returns next Saturday, 23 October, in its traditional format, with a shot gun start at 13.30 hrs.
Members can enter their names, in the Clubhouse, up to 13.00hrs., before the draw is made for Teams. No names will be accepted for inclusion in the draw after this time.
The organising committee will determine each week the numbers allowed to participate depending on the demands on the course. Every effort will be made to facilitate all members who wish play each week.
Members are asked to make the payment of their Entry Fee of €5 in note form only.
Coins will not be accepted.
Those playing in the competition will be responsible for putting their Handicap Index and Playing Handicap, for the Green Markers, on the Scorecard each Saturday.
The Rules of Golf will apply should there be any errors in this regard.
The Saturday Fourball League will also commence and will continue throughout the Fourball season ending in March 2022. A League Table will be posted each week for members to follow, on the Notice Board.
The presentation of prizes will take place each Saturday following the competition in the Clubhouse.
The starting time for this competition will vary from week to week depending on the activity on the course and members are advised to check the starting time each week.
Junior Sixes
The Kilkenny Junior Sixes Team will join with seven other regional winners and head to Portmarnock on Saturday, 24 October, when they will compete in 2021 Golf Sixes National Finals.

The best two cards from each team will be used to determine the winners.

There will be a 13 hole competition for those boys and girls with handicaps and a five hole event for the non handicap playing members .
Bungalow
There has been two incidents, in the last few weeks whereby windows have been broken by members using the practice nets. It would be greatly appreciated if such incidents are reported immediately to the office so that the necessary repair work can be carried out.
Course News.
Placing
Placing, on fairways only, has been introduced and will continue until further notice.
Players must firstly mark their ball, lift, clean and place, within six inches, not nearer the hole.
Divot Bags
The Divot bag rails will be brought back into use this week-end. Members can collect their bag from the stand at the first tee and return same to the stand at the cleaning bay before exiting the course.
The ball cleaning stand will also become operational.
Defibrillator
Members are advised to familiarise themselves with the location of the Defibrillator and how to access it.
It is located on the left hand side of the doorway leading to the Gent’s locker room.
If you have a need to use it, in an emergency, just twist off the cover and bring it to the scene of the incident. Once the defibrillator is switched on there will be a clear audible message on how to operate the machine.
