General Notes
Saturday, 28 August. Kilkenny Block Company, Junior Scratch Cup.
It was a case of local knowledge proved best in the Kilkenny Block Company sponsored Junior Scratch Cup, last Saturday, when Kilkenny member Sam Dunlop (3), on 147 secured victory by one shot from Mount Juliet member Ned Kerwin (3), while, a further two back was, Callan member, Brian Staunton (3) on 150.
Sam followed his excellent opening round, of a one over par, 72 with a steady 75, to pip Ned Kerwin, who shot a 76 in his second round.
Purse System.
By now members should have down-loaded the Purse onto their various devices and have been using it to pay-for the competition on registration.
Members have, until now, been allowed some leeway whereby, if there were insufficient funds in there Purse they were allowed to play by tendering cash/debit card on the day.
The Management Committee have agreed that this practice will cease to exist with effect from the week-end of Saturday, 18 September, meaning that when you turn up to play and don’t have sufficient funds in your purse you will not be allowed to play in that competition. You are reminded that if you try to do a top at this time it may take 4/5 minutes for the funds to be registered on your Purse and could possibly lead to you missing you tee-time.
Top ups may be made by having a Credit/Debit card stored on your phone or by cash/credit card in the office.
If you continue to have problems or need help in downloading the app please contact the office.
Social Activities
There is Social Mixed Golf scheduled for this coming week-end. It will take place on Saturday evening, 04 September. Bookings are available now on the BRS system and members wishing to play should enter their names on same.
There will be a shot gun start at 17.45hrs. Players are advised to arrive before 17.30hrs. to find out who the other team members are and discover which hole they will be commencing from.
Club Matchplay Competitions
The various matchplay competitions are progressing very nicely with the exception of the Bar Cup. There are two second matches still to be completed. This is grossly unfair on the remaining competitors left in the competition. These outstanding matches must be played immediately in order to avoid the Competitions Committee making the decision for you.
Please remember that Club Finals Day is on Saturday, 18 September.
Kilkenny Golf Club 1896- 2021
This year marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of Kilkenny Golf Club.
To mark the occasion and to show appreciation for the support that members have given to the club over the past two difficult years the Management Committee have decided to run a complimentary Members Classic over the weekend of Friday-Monday, 10-13 September.
The details are as follows:
Date:- Friday, 10th to Monday, 13 September inclusive.
Format:- Four Person team event.
Entry:- Free and will include a Meal, served after play.
Handicap:- No limit but, Playing Handicap subject to Golf Ireland recommendation of 85% of Course Handicap.
Prizes:- Minimum 10 prizes, to include an All Ladies team, All Junior team and All Seniors team (over 65 – membership categories)
Bookings for the Club Members week-end will go live this Friday, 03 September.
All teams will be entered into a draw for a golfing break to Portugal to take place over the Easter weekend, next April.
This will include five nights Bed & Breakfast, in the Vila Gale Hotel in Cascais, Portugal, with two rounds of golf in Penha Longa and Lisbon Sports Club.
Flights are not included.
From a safeguarding perspective, under 18’s are not eligible to win the raffle or a prize involving overnight accommodation (unless playing with a parent) but can win any other prize.
As soon as Covid rules allow it is proposed to have a celebration night in the club at which former PRO Tom Brett will show a huge collection of photographs relating to Kilkenny Golf Club going back to the 1960’s.
Work is also taking place on restoring and displaying the existing collection of club photographs with plans to incorporate these photographs in to a history section on the club website.
Adopt a Green
A proposal was adopted at the last AGM that members be requested to
“Adopt a Green” with respect to the repair of pitch marks.
We are now seeking volunteers who would be prepared to adopt a green, so
that when they are playing, both themselves and their team members would
give special attention to repairing the pitch marks on their designated green.
It is important to note that this proposal will not in any way diminish the
responsibility everybody has to repair pitch marks on the greens.
If you are interested in adopting a green, please forward your name to
enquiries@kilkennygolfclub.com
We will then correspond to you on the allocation of the greens.
Course News
Environmental 10th.
The Course Committee have installed a new dual mixed recycling and general waste unit and a separate organic waste unit at the 10th tee.
This is another environmental initiative by Kilkenny Golf Club following on from the very successful wildflower meadows biodiversity project.
Most members have a three bin collection service and are well acquainted with the segregation of their waste.
Dry recyclable waste includes paper, plastic bottles, steel and aluminium cans etc.
Organic waste includes apple cores, orange peels, banana skins and other food waste.
General waste is residual waste.
We know how committed our members are to environmental protection and this initiative is another step in this direction.”
Practice nets
New nets have been installed at the practice driving net area, near 1st tee.
