Team Results
Barton Shield v Wexford
The Barton Shield team took on Wexford on Sunday with one match at home and the other away. Craig Martin and David McMahon played at home, while Derek O’Gorman and David Cosgrave did battle in Wexford.
The format is unusual in that it is based on the aggregate scores of both matches with play continuing until the loosing team runs out of holes.
Craig and David got off to a flyer at home and went 2 up with a fine birdie on 3. Another win followed on the 6th which put the pair in excellent shape.
Meanwhile in Wexford Derek and David won 3 holes in a row to move from 1 down after 3, to 2 up after 6. This match tightened and the pairs where level with the home team recording wins on 7 and 9.
At home Craig and David turned 2 up and playing some excellent  golf had wins on 12, 14 and 15 to move 5up.
Having traded holes, the Wexford match was all square after 14. So, a couple of halves would secure victory.
The 16th was lost at home but wins on 17 and 18 saw the home pair win 6up allowing the Wexford match to be called in when all square.
In the next round, Kilkenny will face the winners of Birr versus Naas.
