General Notes
Mark Power
Mark Power continues to make the headlines, not in Ireland but in the States this time.
Playing with Wake Forest, Mark rolled in a birdie putt on 18 to secure a two stroke victory when he shot a five under 67, on a difficult course to win the East Lake Cup men’s individual title
In winning his first NCAA title he became the first freshman to win the East Lake Cup.
Wake Forest qualified for the two day match play event and are drawn to play Arizona in the second semi-final, to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Chernobyl Draw
Would you like to have an opportunity to play in an exhibition match alongside Club Professional, Jimmy Bolger?
The Chernobyl Fourball is back and to be in with a chance to play with Jimmy against the pairing of Mark Power and DJ Carey, all you have to do is purchase a line, cost €5, from behind the bar in the Clubhouse. Also included in the first prize are green fees for a Fourball in Tralee, Cork, Kinsale and Connemara Golf Clubs.
The remaining prizes will include green fees for a Fourball in venues such as Mount Juliet, Rosslare, Gowran, Waterford, The Royal Curragh and many, many more. Full details are available from the Bar in the Clubhouse.

Clubhouse Refurbishment
The final stages of the refurbishment programme will take place next week.
Commencing from Monday, 04 November the fit out of carpets, furniture and other fittings will start and continue throughout the week until Friday.
Because of these works there will be no catering or bar facilities available during the week.
It is still expected to launch the facilities on Friday evening.

Winter Handicap Adjustments.
The Winter handicap rules/cuts came into effect last week-end and will remain in place until further notice.
Players finishing in the top three will receive adjustments as per the schedule on display on the notice board.
In addition and also effective from last week-end there will be General Play Cuts based on a Yellow Card system, with the winner receiving three points, second and third both getting two points.
When a player has accumulated six points they will receive a cut of one full shot against their full handicap once qualifying competitions resume in the Spring.
The Yellow Card points system will apply to all competitions including Team events, Fourball and Foursomes.
Full details are available on the notice board.
It is the responsibility of each person to check their Winter handicap adjustments and to play off same throughout the winter months. Failure to do will result in disqualification for that competition.
Winners of the Saturday Fourball will not be subject to Winter adjustments.
Winter handicap adjustments do not affect your Club handicap when playing in other competitions away from Kilkenny.

Course News
Once again a very big Thank you goes to the seven volunteers who turned up this morning at very short notice, to plant additional shrubbery around the course to-day.
Weather permitting, there will be another planting session, next Wednesday morning at 10.00 hrs. All volunteers and helpers would be very welcome.

It has been brought to our attention that some members who use buggies are driving buggies on to the approaches of greens and in some cases on to the fringes of greens. Buggies should be kept at least 5 metres from the edge of greens. We were forwarded a photo today of a buggy practically on the 16th green and this cannot be tolerated going forward.

The severe frost early on Saturday & Sunday mornings closed the course for those early risers resulting in a dramatically reduced field for the Singles.
With only 43 players there were only three prizes awarded.

We would encourage new members to the Club to enter and also members who haven’t played in the singles before. The standard is not extremely high and the competition will be handicapped as fairly as possible. If you have played before please let us know so that we can allocate you a fair handicap.
The trophy for the singles is named after our former colleague and friend, Patrick Wall, whose second anniversary was just last week. For €6 you could get one or more nights enjoyment over the winter months, until the serious golf kicks in again.
The inaugural winner of the Patrick Wall Memorial Trophy was Paul Carroll and the defending champion is Paul Hanafin.
