General Notes

Covid 19. Phase 3

Phase 3 of the return to normal golf will commence next Monday (29th) with the only major change for golfers being the return of competitive golf.

The tee off time frame has been reduced to 12 minutes for Four-ball golf and to 10 minutes for Singles.

Kilkenny G. C. will continue with the Four-ball format for the foreseeable future.


Whilst Barry Joyce will commence with the catering arrangements from next Monday, the Club is awaiting a guidance from Gui before a final decision on whether or not the Bar facilities can re-open. It is hoped a decision will be made in the coming days.



The Committee have agreed a revised Diary of events for the remainder of the year.

July will see the qualifiers for the Club Four-ball, and Singles take place over the first two week-ends. In both of these competitions the top 32 will go forward to the draw for the match play stage.

The Smithwick’s Cup and two Monthly Medals will also take place.

The Homecare Classic will be held on Thursday & Friday, 23 & 24 July.


All Ireland Cups and Shields

The GUI have agreed the timetable for the various All Ireland Cups and Shields.

The draw for same will be available next Monday, 29 June, with commencement pencilled in from Monday, 20 July.

The confirmed competitions are:- Gent’s Senior and Junior Cups, The Jimmy Bruen and Pierce Purcell, with the latter two being run as Fourball, rather than the usual Foursome format. The Barton Cup (Provincial only) will also take place.



As with Phases 1 & 2, Members are advised to read the new protocols as laid down in Phase 3 by the Government and Kilkenny GC.

These Protocols are prepared with the intention of members being able to continue to play in a safe and controlled environment and in full compliance with Government & Health Authorities guidelines.

These procedures will be under constant review and depend on all members adhering to and respecting them and subject to evolving recommendations from the authorities.



Members are reminded they may only book one round of golf in the Saturday to Monday block and one round in the Tuesday to Friday block.

Members may check time sheets, after 18.00hrs, each evening and may make additional bookings but only for the following day if there are spaces available.

Up to this we have been contacting members who double book but, going forward, we will just delete the second booking.

If anyone needs clarification on the above please contact Sean.

If one of the four members on a line is not, for one reason or another, able to play, his name must be removed immediately to allow those on the waiting list to get a game.

You are not allowed to leave the unavailable players name on the list and offer it to a colleague.

Only named members will be allowed to play.

The pace of play must be adhered to. There have been many occasions where some four-balls have fallen behind badly.

The recommended time for four-balls is 3hrs.45 mins max..


Safety First

Following an intrusion by a number of non-members onto the course last Saturday, Members are advised to exercise extreme caution if you they encounter same again.

The Marshall on duty was called and he in turn called the Gardai. When approached the intruders were aggressive and threatening and only departed when they became aware that the gardai had been summoned.


Course News

Divot Repair Crew

There will be a Divot Repair session this evening, Tuesday, 23 June at 18.30hrs.

If you have an hour to spare please respond as we will need to organise and sanitise the buggies etc.

If we get sufficient numbers it should only take an hour.

Volunteers will not be able to share Buggies but we will have 10 available.

Please gather in the Carpark at 18.20hrs.


Catering Corner

Dear Member,

In accordance with the Government and Bord Failte Protocols, the reopening of the catering facilities at Kilkenny Golf Club will take place next Monday, 29 June.

We would like to assure you all that appropriate safety measures and precautions will be in place, to ensure the safety of staff and members.

Due to advisory protocol of the local Business Enterprise we will operate with a reduced time scale of daily opening hours from 12.00 to 19.00hrs for the foreseeable future.

Members wishing to dine must pre-book with Barry on 086 820 5260

The daily menus will also be available to take away.

Pro Shop Corner

Congratulations to Martin Kelly, who, on return to golf after a 10 month lay off, selected the winning bonus ball for last Saturdays draw. Martin receives a €230 Pro-shop voucher.

The Bonus Ball draw is based on the bonus number for the main Lotto prize draw each Saturday night.

Members can enter the weekly draw by selecting a number between 1-46, the cost of which is €5.

Call into the Pro-shop and select your number.


Ladies Club Notes


Club Matchplay Competitions

Since the Covid 19 pandemic, most of our lady members have avoided accessing the ladies locker room and consequently may have missed  entering the various Club Matchplay competitions which are posted on the Ladies Notice Board.



The draw for the following competitions will be made on Tuesday, 30 June.

In order to avoid disappointment ladies, please make sure that your name is entered in the relevant competition this week.

Matches will be played during the months of July, August and September.

All going well, it is anticipated that the Club Finals will be held in early October.

The competition groups are as follows:

Toastal Cup H/cap 1-18

Nore Cup H/cap 19-28

Nancy Todd H/cap 29-36

Plate H/cap 37 plus

The entry fee can be paid when playing the first match.

It is anticipated there will be a good level of interest in entering the various categories after all the practice that has been put in by the ladies during the social golf period.


Round Robin Competition

Unfortunately, due to the Corona Virus the Round Robin Competition had to be suspended in March. However, the good news is that this competition will recommence in July and must be completed by the end of August.

So ladies, all who previously entered the Round Robin, are now given the opportunity to play the remaining matches and satisfactorily conclude the competition.

All details relating of the Round Robin are posted on the Ladies Notice Board.


All ILGU Inter-club matches have been cancelled for 2020


Junior/Juvenile Club

It has a been confirmed that Junior/Juvenile Club competitions will commence from Monday, 06 July. They will continue each Monday for the months of July and August with the exception of Monday, 03 August. The final day of competition will be Monday, 17 August.

Entry fee will be €5.

Junior/Juvenile Club Fundraiser

With the return of competitive golf confirmed in Phase 3, the Junior/Juvenile Club Fundraiser will be held on Wednesday, 15 July.

The four person team event will be an Open competition with an entry fee of €15 per member and €20 for visitors.

All funds raised will go to help defer the costs of running the Junior Club.

Bookings will be available online on the BRS system from Friday 03 July.



Monday 29 June – Friday 03 July

Golf arrangements (Four-balls) will continue as they are currently being run.

Bookings for the above date will become available on Friday at 17.30hrs.
