Captain, Anthony Cleere’s Prize. Final Round..
And so, following the qualifiers, we all reckoned we knew where the winner of the Captains prize would emerge from? Wrong.
Very few pundits looked beyond the front runners and failed to consider the chasing pack.
It is fair to say that it was the tightest final round of a Captains prize for many a year.
The eventual winner Nathan Ryan (8), started the day three shots back and played very steady golf all the way. Not knowing how his main challengers, Ronan Moriarty and John Marnell were fairing, Nathan kept very calm and recorded three birdies in the last five holes, posting an excellent score of 11 under net for the 36 holes to secure victory from Ronan Moriarty on the countback.
Due to the Covid restrictions it was a subdued evening, when Captain Anthony presented his prize to Nathan Ryan.
Anthony, in congratulating the winners also thanked the very large numbers who played in his competition. He was extremely grateful to all those who supported and worked with him during the pandemic, thus ensuring a safe return to golf for all.
President Michael Grant
The men will play for President Michael Grant’s prize this coming weekend on Saturday & Sunday and the presentation will take place on Sunday night at 9.30pm. The competition will be stableford. All prizewinners will be contacted on the night.
Lost and found
There was a sum of money found on the course last Wednesday between the 12th green and 13th tee. The owner can claim same by contacting the Office.
The current wet weather is causing untold damage to the course with both Junior and Full members failing to repair pitch marks or using the Divot mix.
Please, please use the Sand mix and repair your pitch marks asap.
Thanks to the divot crew who turned up tonight for the repair session at 7pm. The reintroduction of the divot bags has made a huge improvement and the task tonight was not near as onerous as it had been in previous weeks. Hopefully those who took the bags will continue to refill them each time they go out and use the mix accordingly. It is very interesting to observe the age profile of those who are the taking the bags out and also those who take part in the divot repair sessions.

Pro Shop Corner
Before we proceed with this weeks results I wish to correct my mistake of last week.
In stating that lightning does strike twice, I credited David Conlon with having won the
€230 bonus ball voucher for the second time.
Unfortunately my ‘cut and paste’ skills let me down – badly.
The actual winner of the draw was Alan Doran, who selected the winning number, on successive weeks and has a very healthy €460 balance in the Pro Shop.
Now, for this weeks results and once again lightning did strike twice for Liam Barrett.
This is Liam’s second win in the draw.
The next draw will be held on Saturday, 22 August.
Call into the Pro Shop to get your number. Cost €5.
