Ulster Girls Championship.
Jan Browne won the Ulster Girls Championship and the Fred Daly Trophy beating Elm Park’s Anna Foster 3&2 in the final at Warrenpoint Golf Club on Thursday.
Jan was the leading qualifier in the 18 hole qualifying round with a two over par 74 beating Anna on a countback.
She reached the final by beating Nicole Joyce Moreno (Royal Portrush) 2&1 and Caoimhe O’Grady (Blackbush) 6&5.
This was a great achievement for Jan who was competing against some of the best Juniors in the country.
Gent’s Club Foursomes Qualifier
In very difficult and tough conditions the qualifiers for the Club Foursome Match play were held. The Leading qualifiers were Fergal Cantwell & Leo Hennessy who shot a fine 68.
Just two scores of 76 made the cut and the 31 successful pairings, along with last years winners, John & Noel Meagher, go forward to the draw for the match play stages.
The draw for the match play will take place this evening (Tuesday) and will be posted on the notice board.
Club Mixed Foursomes
The entry sheet for the Club Mixed is now posted on the Gent’s notice board.
The cost of entry is €12 per pairing. Please put the entry fee in an envelope and hand it tin to the bar.
The draw will be held on the 22 May and only paid up pairs will be eligible for the draw.
Participants in the Club Singles and Club Fourball are reminded that their first round matches must be completed in the next 10 days.
Junior Scratch Cup
The Kilkenny Block Company sponsored Junior Scratch Cup will be held on Sunday 19 May.
With a handicap limit of 4 – 9, the 36 hole competition will have a shotgun start at 08.45 and 13.45. Entries are limited to 63 players.
Entry is €30 and includes lunch.
Defending champion is Alan O’Rourke.
Mark Power – Walker Cup
The R&A has announced an initial squad of 26 players who are in contention for selection for the Great Britain and Ireland team to play against the United States of America in the 47th Walker Cup match at Royal Liverpool.
The biennial encounter will be played on Saturday, 07 and Sunday, 08 September with GB&I aiming to win back the trophy after losing 19-7 at the Los Angeles Country Club two years ago.
Kilkenny’s Mark Power is one of the five Irish players nominated for the squad.
Mens Trolley / Caddy Car Shed
Please note, any member who has a trolley/caddy car in the Mens trolley shed, you are requested to move them into the new storage area in the bungalow by next Tuesday, 07 May at the latest.
Any trolleys still in the shed, after this date, will be removed and placed in the old machinery shed, behind the 18th green.

In a see-saw battle in the JB Carr, Kilkenny were on the wrong end of a 3.5 to1.5 result.
This was a very tight contest with there matches going down the 19th, one finishing on the 18th and Kilkenny’s only win was by a 2&1 margin.

Wednesday, 24 April. Junior Captains Drive In
Despite poor weather conditions, a good number of Juniors, parents and club officials assembled to support the Drive-in of the Junior Boy’s Captain, Patrick O’Shea and Junior Girl’s Captain, Aoife Crowdle last Wednesday.
A 13 Hole Champagne Scramble had been planned but this was reduced to nine holes, due to the rain. Finger food and prize giving followed the event.

Match:- Fred Daly v Gowran
The Fred Daly team progressed to the third round of the competition with a 3/2 win over Gowran.
The highlight matches for Kilkenny, were the top match where Patrick O’Shea was one under par and one up on the turn. Patrick stepped it up and won four of the next five to win on the 14th. In match no 3, Louis Walsh had three birdies and was one over par when he won on the 14th.
With the match finely balanced at two games apiece it fell to Andrew Arnopp to keep his nerve and secure the winning match point away from home.
It is great credit to the team that they all fought very hard for the victory
The team now meet the winners between Waterford GC and Wexford GC.

Paul Hanafin is the new singles snooker champion and receives the Patrick Wall Memorial Trophy.
This is Paul’s first time to win the singles and along the way he took some big scalps in Tommy Buckley, Billy Burke and Joe O’Neill before accounting for his doubles partner Martin Hanrick in the final. Well done to Paul and to beaten finalist Martin and semi finalists Joe o Neill and Brendan Cleere.
The presentation will be held at the next golf presentation and will also include the presentation to doubles winners Christy Power and Michael O’ Neill and beaten finalists P J Martin and Alan Snype.
